Buying Nursery Furniture – a Guide for New Parents

baby bedroom furniture

Having your first baby is a wonderful and at times, frightening experience as you grasp how much there is to do. You want your newborn’s nursery and the nursery furniture to be better than a fairy tale dream, but it is essential to think about you and your little one’s safety and security above all else. So when dreaming up that new nursery take care to consider the following guidance.

The first thing to fit to a child’s room is a smoke alarm, for just a couple of pounds (or free from your local fire prevention officer) these life saving devises must be your paramount purchase. When your child begins to wander it’s important that any spare electrical outlet is sealed with a simple plastic socket protector to stop your inquisitive baby from sticking his fingers. It’s also a good idea to locate bedroom furniture in the way to prevent your baby from finding outlets.

The next most important thing is your child’s cot since this is where they will initially spend most of their time in those first few months. When picking a cot it’s important to ensure they comply with the government safety regulations (EN 716 within Europe. The cot must be deep enough so your baby cannot climb out. Ensure that the spacing between the rails is not capable of allowing the child to trap their head. Make sure that if the cot has drop down sides that they have robust locks to prevent them from being accidently operated by your baby. It’s important that second hand cots are inspected thoroughly for damage to fixtures and fastenings and that you buy a brand new mattress for your baby. It’s also vital to ensure the mattress is a snug fit and leaves not more than a 4cm gap around the outside to prevent your child from becoming trapped.

Remember to place your baby down to sleep on her back to reduce the risks of SIDS and stop using pillows or very fluffy bed clothes in the cot. If you have a nightlight in your nursery, place it away from the cot so the bed clothes doesn’t catch fire and avoid locating the light near drapes, plastic, or other objects that may ignite from the heat.

When designing your nursery plan ensure no furniture is located near windows, when your child learns to stand they may try to climb up and have a look out. Also avoid placing anything that may permit your toddler to stand on to peer out of a window. Keep the windows in the nursery properly locked. When opening a window for airing ensure it is firmly fixed and ideally never open more than 5cm.

Another item of nursery furniture to blame for numerous infant injuries is the changing station. Using a wedge shaped changing mat can assist enormously in making sure your child can’t roll away and some changing stations even have straps to strap your child. Keep your changing supplies out of baby’s reach. Babies and toddlers are instinctively inquisitive and nappy sacks or rash creams can be potentially harmful.

Rather worryingly one of the most common causes of harm in a child’s room are window dressings and blinds. It’s important that short window dressings are used that small children can’t become trapped in and that the cords on Venetian blinds are kept short. When using blinds ensure the cords are tied up to keep them short and are never within a baby’s reach.

It’s essential to have storage for the masses of playthings baby will no doubt collect but choose cautiously. Look for toy chests that have no lid or have very lightweight or child friendly hinged lids. As your baby gets older, he may climb inside the toy chesttoy box and a heavy lid may trap her so it’s important they be fitted with safety hinges or lightweight lids. You should also try to select nursery furniture with lids and drawers that are not as likely to trap your youngster’s tiny digits. Wardrobe and cupboard doors are also a possible danger to your child and you must consider fitting child safe mechanisms to prevent your baby from injuring themselves

By following sound guidance and following common sense, new parents can ensure they select the right choices when buying nursery furniture and create the perfect room for their youngster.

Personalized Baby Gifts for Your Growing Child

baby bedroom furniture

Kids love gifts with their name printed on them. From personalized pencils to t-shirts printed with their names, kids can’t get enough of personalized toys and gifts. So if you are looking for a birthday gift or a gift for a special achievement for a child under the age of twelve, you can’t go wrong with anything that’s personalized with his or her name. Personalized baby gifts are relatively easy to find, but when it comes to older children, you may have to stretch your brain a little to come up with a personalized gift that’s perfect for the occasion. Here are some suggestions to help you become the very best mommy, daddy or relative in the whole world.

Baby’s 1st Christmas Gifts

A baby’s first Christmas is a very special occasion, and should be acknowledged that way. In most cases, a child will not remember much about his or her first Christmas. However, this does not mean that the gift you give is “for the parents”. This is the year to look forward, far forward into the future, and buy a keepsake gift that the child will treasure for years to come. A suggestion for an ideal first Christmas gift is a personalized tree ornament that is sure to become a treasured heirloom in later years. Look ahead to the year that the child, now grown up, hangs the painted ornament with his or her name and date of birth on their own family’s Christmas.

For the Creeper and Crawler Set

What could be cuter than a little diapered bottom crawling away with the baby’s name printed across the flap of a pair of personalized long johns? Babies go through rompers and Onesies at a rate that’s alarming to any mother, so they can always use an extra set of rompers for everyday wear. You can make these extra special by personalizing them with the baby’s name and a cute graphic.

Soft and Cuddly Personalized Toys

Go beyond the stereotypical teddy bear when you are looking for a soft and cuddly toy for a young child. Pick a plush toy that can stand up to heavy-duty play like a Cottontail Bunny Cottage stuffed with cloth-sided furniture and embroidered with your favorite little girl’s name. Boys will love this gift as well, but if you are leery about giving pink to a little boy, opt for a Noah’s Ark stuffed toy set complete with plush animals and an ark-shaped carrying case personalized with the child’s name.

Personalized Preschool Toys

For the pre-school set, you might want to move up a bit to more engaging interactive toys such as a Preschool Laptop that features numerous activities for the toddler on the go. Kids of this age love toys that light up and make noises on cue, so keep your eye out for toys that offer interactivity, but don’t forget classic favorites like wooden name puzzles. Name Puzzle Boards and Puzzle stools help youngsters learn to recognize and spell their names while providing a step up tool for reaching things like the bathroom sink.

Preschoolers are especially appreciative of items with their names on them. At this age, they are starting to go out and about in the world. Make it a little easier on them with gifts that are designed to go with them like a roll-up Nap and Go, which is a personalized nap-blanket that can be rolled up and tucked into a cubby at school or carted along to Grandma’s so that naptime is still comfortable.

Spruce up the bedroom with personalized furniture

As babies outgrow the nursery and become children, you can help make their bedrooms cozy retreats that reflect who they are. Kids need more than just a bed and a dresser if they are really going to live in their rooms. Encourage good habits with a personalized book rack painted with dragonflies or trains, or maybe even a hand-painted canvas organizer to make it more fun for your little bookworm to put away toys and books.

Some other kid-friendly furniture that your child might appreciate are a kid size table and chair set and a matching wooden rocking chair with his or her name hand-painted across the back. Keep in mind that preschool and primary school kids have each have their favorite cartoon characters from Disney, Sesame Street and Nick Kids. A Dora the Explorer pillowcase or a SpongeBob Squarepants laundry bag is almost guaranteed to be a big hit.

Personalized gifts for teens

By the time kids reach their teens, many of their own tastes and preferences are set. Try to keep favorite colors and themes in mind when you choose gifts, as well as to cater to their interests with the gifts that you pick. If you are not sure, there are many “neutral” personalized gifts that will make even the most cynical teen-ager smile. What teen wouldn’t like a personalized Aluminum Sports Water Bottle in a favorite color or a Street Sign painted with his or her name? Personalized t-shirts, sweatshirts and gear like Rolling Duffle Bags are also surefire pleasers for the teens on your gift list.

Children’s Bedding

A childs bedroom should be a room that reflects their personality and lets their imagination run wild.  Create a space your child will love with quality bedding from Sweet Peaches Bedding. Whether you are designing a new room or looking for easy updates, Sweet Peaches Bedding has children’s bedding and decor so you can create a room where your child can grow and play. Whether it’s toddler, twin, full, or queen size; trucks, rockets, mermaids, or flowers, our childrens bedding is superior quality, fun designs, and affordable.

* Make your child’s room inviting, decorated to his/her taste, and age-appropriate. Consider allowing your child to help decorate by at the very least picking out the bedding. For the more ambitious adventurers, give your child choices of a bedroom theme, positioning of bed and furniture (with your help, of course), and overall look and feel. The general idea is you want your child to absolutely LOVE his/her room and want to spend time in it!

* Consider the size of the bed. Some parents move their child to a twin or even larger bed as soon as a child graduates from the crib. For some children, that is fine, but others may feel intimidated or even threatened by its size. Depending on a child’s nature, toddler beds can provide a nice transition between crib and twin. These beds often are available in theme designs, such as a race car or castle. Make sure your child can easily get in and out of bed and feels comfortable in it.

Create a Child’s Bedroom to Match Their Personality

baby bedroom furniture

Decorating a nursery is a mother’s prerogative. The colors, theme and styles of furniture are all at her whim to choose and decide upon. But when children get a little older, their room should be a reflection of who they are – not their parents. Creating a child’s bedroom to reflect the child can be a fun and rewarding process, too. And while the theme, if any, will be key, the furniture will make or break the deal.

When it’s time to take down the fluffy bunnies or A, B, C blocks from the wall and transform a baby’s room into a growing child’s abode, seek advice from the child. Find out what he or she is interested in. Perhaps your little princess wants a royal room? Or, maybe your little quarterback wants to go with a football theme? It’s even possible no theme will be desired. Remember to ask them though … it’s their room now. Don’t try to impose your whims and wishes on the little things like border paper or colors (within reason).

If a theme is chosen, this can open the door for a whole lot of fun. Decorating, let’s say, a princess room doesn’t have to cost a bundle either. Plan together what you’d like the room to look like and start shopping for accessories. An old floor length mirror, for example, can be picked up at a junk shop or yard sale and painted high-gloss white to fit in just perfectly. Small implements and accessories such as pillows, a faux canopy and so on can go a long way, too, without breaking the bank.

And while looking for the accessories is really a blast, the real meat of the room lies in the furniture. This is where your opinion can and should count, too. Furniture for a growing child should be comfortable and functional. It should also be of quality construction.

If a theme is chosen, look for pieces to fit into it, but keep in mind if the construction isn’t quality, it’s not likely to last. A $1,000 princess bed that’s put together with staples may look cool at the start, but once the little royal does some jumping and normal wear and tear takes place, it may look like a crusade came through the room.

Try to find pieces that will fit the theme and grow with the child as well. Your seven-year-old may want a football room, but when he’s 15 that could change. Buy for now, but keep your eyes on the future.

When creating a room for a growing child keep in mind the extras that will eventually need to go into a room. A desk for school; perhaps a computer stand as well will be needed most likely. If you buy furniture that will work for the seven-year-old only, you’ll find yourself buying again a few years down the road. But if you choose items that blend into the room and will work with different design themes and good quality pieces are chosen, a single purchase should suffice over the many different stages your child will go through as he or she grows.

No matter what’s chosen, make sure the furniture is comfortable, fits in the room well and is well designed enough to handle the wear and tear a child can dish out. Children are tough on their furniture, so their furniture should be tough enough to handle it.

Funky Furniture Brings Fun To Any Child’S Bedroom

girl bedroom furniture

Every child wants to have the coolest bedroom out of all of their friends. Young kids particulary love fun theme beds, with racing car beds and princess fairy beds being particularly popular for boys and girls of all ages. Many novelty beds are available with matching bedroom furniture too. Jigsaw assembly furniture is another novel way to jazz up a child’s room, with brands such as Kidsaw bedroom furniture offering easy slot-together furniture that doesn’t need screws, glue or special tools yet doesn’t wobble or loosen and is just as sturdy as regular furniture.

With older kids and tweens it can be more difficult to find cool and funky furniture they’ll like. Kids get to an age where they would like to have a little more leeway in choosing child furniture and accessories for their room.

They want to show their rooms off to their friends and be able to point out special features that have a WOW factor, like illuminated bedside tables. These are much more appealing to kids than those smaller versions of adult furnishings. Funky, trendy child bedroom furniture is a way of giving identity and ownership of the room to your child.

By setting some rules and offering your child some totally cool and funky kids bedroom furniture options, the two of you should be able to create a room that is as individual as they are.

Rooms can really pop when the walls and bedding have strong colour or patterns, and this sets the tone for some really rocking furniture choices. Slouch interactive beanbag chairs are always great fun, very mobile and can be found in a colour and style that will look splendid in your child’s bedroom. They are always comfortable, and they provide extra seating when school friends are over for a visit. These are very popular for kids of almost any age.

Interactive multimedia chairs are made for kids. Who would not enjoy lounging in comfort while plugged into their music or video games? With surround sound and vibrations, these chairs take game playing to new heights of excitement. These chairs are compatible with MP3 players as well as the most popular gaming systems.

Also be sure that a specific area in the child’s room is included as their own “get away paradise”.   Just pick a spot and add a fuzzy rug that is soft and colourful, add a sheer curtain panel or string beads along the wall to highlight this special room area. You can also add accents to the wall with some framed, personalized childrens pictures or arched mirrors.  Throw pillows will add bright splashes of color and they can be used as floor seating when necessary. This turns a drab corner into a really cool spot for friends to congregate as they watch television, listen to music, or just hang out.

If you’re tight on space in your child’s room, high sleepers with under storage space can be the right answer and your kids will love this practical and great looking furniture.  In the storage area, your child can arrange their computer, television, and books. They can even turn this space into homework and reading area.  Of course, this little hide-a-way also makes a snug area that will give them a private retreat when they want to have some quiet time as well.

Directbuy of Nyc Provides Tips to Designing the “perfect Kid’s Room.”

kids bedroom furniture

BROOKLYN, QUEENS, WOODSIDE, NEW YORK CITY, NY…

DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens and DirectBuy of Manhattan, the leading members-only showroom and home design centers, not only offer consumers a brand new way to save on home improvement projects, but also offers some helpful tips on designing the perfect kid’s room.

“A child’s bedroom serves as much more than a place for you kids to play. It’s a study, computer room, play room, game room, video/entertainment center and even a guest room,” said Marti Brandt, owner of DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens. “By following a few simple guidelines, you can create a room that’s comfortable for them to sleep and play in, but also maximizes the space.”

Some guidelines to follow include:

?        Involve your children in the buying of the furniture and decorating process; it’s their room, after all, and it stands to reason they will be more comfortable with items they helped select.

?        Take into account your child’s age, gender and how long the furniture will be used (e.g. bunk beds might be fun at 12, but at 16 your teenager might want some more space)

?        Only consider bedroom furniture that has quality construction and age-appropriate design. It is also a good idea to bring children along while shopping to make sure the bedding is comfortable.

?        Plan for growth – not just your child getting bigger but acquiring more things and clothing that will need to be stored.

Both DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens and DirectBuy of Manhattan carry a large selection of brand-name kids’ furniture at wholesale prices direct from the manufacturers and their authorized suppliers. In addition, DirectBuy employs product specialists and designers who can help parents and children select furniture and accessories to create the look you want for your child’s room.

“Sure, parents might lose a little leverage by sending a child to their room not being seen as a form of punishment,” laughs Brandt. “The upside is that by creating a room that’s a haven for your child, they’ll be happier, which in turn makes parents happier. So everybody wins.”

Consumers interested in becoming DirectBuy members may obtain a Visitor’s Pass to attend an Open House by contacting DirectBuy of Brooklyn and Queens at 718-247-2320, or contacting the showroom co-owners Michael Wiseltier or Marti Brandt at info@directbuybq.com.  For DirectBuy of Manhattan, please contact Co-Owner Mark Brandt at 212-290-3020 or info@directbuybq.com.

5 Smart Tips to Decorate Your Kid’s Room

girl bedroom furniture

So you have a new room for your child. You are excited to decorate it. Parents really, do. You think you want your kid’s room to be something fascinating for his eyes and for his visitors as well. If you do not know where to start, try these smart tips:

Paint the wall the cartoon characters

Kids love cartoon characters, such as Sponge Bob Square Pants. Why not paint it on his room’s wall? Ask him which character or characters he wishes to be painted on the wall. This painting will surely wear out, but not his interest with it. Why not filled his room with the same stuffs of toys also? This will bring more excitement and pride to him. In fact, his friends may also wish to stay in his room because of this decoration.

Paint the wall and buy things for his room in one color, but with different shades

Blue and pink are the colors commonly used to distinguish the gender of the child; blue for boys and pink for girls. However, other than pink and blue, you may decorate his room using other colors. The only key here is to use one color for his stuffs, such as pillow and blanket, cabinet, bed, wall decoration, and others, and for the painting in the wall in. To make variations, buy this color in different shades.

Make a themed bedroom

If you have a girl for a child, why not use Disney princesses, such as Cinderella and Snow White, as your theme? Paint the wall with images of the Disney princesses. Decorate the room with things that go well with the Disney princesses, such as dolls in their colorful gowns. Put them in a display case.

Mixed-colored bedroom

For a simpler and cost-effective bedroom, just have a variety of colors in the room. Have the bedroom in pink (blue, if boy), the wall in yellow, the cabinet in blue, and so on and so forth. Children are very attractive to colors that they would surely appreciate a mixed-colored bedroom.

Have a division for his needs and activities

If you have a large room for your kid, separate his needs and activities through divisions. You need not literally put divisions because this will only make the room look smaller and not conducive for his movement. Remember, kids must be free to roam around his room. Just visualize divisions. Put everything in its proper place. For one, make one corner his study area. Place there his books, pencils, papers, and other school supplies. If you have a computer, place it near the books. This will make your kid think, as he grows up, that computers are primarily used to study and not to play online games. Make the other corner his play area, where his toys are present and where two or three of his friends can fit in, in case, he wants them to play there. Of course, the sleeping area should fill the other two corners and other wall decorations.

Decorating your child’s room is exciting, especially if it is done with your kids. Ask him to help you with the decorations. Your child can do simple things for you.

Great Thing About Children’s Bedroom Furniture

kids bedroom furniture

Kids bedroom furniture is perfect for helping your son, or daughter, get his, or her, room organized. How so? Well, it is because they are available in all sorts of types and designs. For instance, maybe your son has a lot of books and video games to go along with that TV of his. Then, what would be a good fit for his room would be an armoire that could double as an entertainment center.

The great thing about children’s bedroom furniture, is that is just a great way to really organize your child’s bedroom and keep it clean. It provides them with nice areas to store their clothes, their toys, extra bedding, and even their special keepsakes. Plus, it gives the space a very beautiful look, not just because it is kept clean and organized, but because the furniture itself has a fantastic appearance.

The furniture you choose should also not have sharp corners or heavy pieces that can come off and fall on your child. Again, a lot of furniture made for children is made specifically so that safety is a first consideration, but you should still keep an eye out and make sure the furniture you choose is completely safe and won’t hurt your child in any way.

Color – Color is important too, but in this case, you can let your child’s creativity and tastes weigh in. After all, what’s better as a child than to have a kids chair just for you, in your favorite color and just your size? That’s one way to make a child feel really special.

Another thing to look at in kids bedroom furniture is the edges. There are some beautiful pieces of furniture out there on the market, but a lot of it has pointed edges. In a child’s room, this is an accident waiting to happen. While you may tell them time and time again not to run in the house, it will happen, and it’s best if you have rounded edges on the furniture for the time when they run into it.

There are many online stores, interior designers and furniture designers, who can help you in selecting the right designer furniture for your kids room. Even they can tell you the ideas on how to make effective utilization of space in the room and use furniture, which give the kids comfort.

As your child ages, bunk beds or futon bunks make use of airspace to preserve that hard-won floor space. We saw bunk beds as climbing structures where kids could practice climbing in a safe environment. The sleepover stage reaches its peak at pre-teen years, when a child learns to bond with people outside the family. Bunk beds are advantageous as older children tire of sleeping on the floor. Futon bunks combine a single bed on top and a double sofa-bed below. The futon bunk bed is the ultimate space-saver for a child’s room as the bed rises above the clutter while the couch is still available as a comfortable reading space and additional sleeper. All of these make for great kids bedroom furniture.
