The Bedroom Every Single Woman Needs

classic bedroom furniture

Every woman wants to have the perfect bedroom, and as a single lady, you don’t have to worry about stripping your husband’s masculinity with your design. That means that it’s time to take control of that bedroom and bring it into spec for what makes you happy and cozy. Maybe you haven’t thought about the best way to do that, or perhaps you haven’t considered all the options. One way to make the bedroom your own is to create custom headboards to adorn your bed according to your mood. Another is to leave behind the traditional idea of a bed and create and entire haven and private getaway in your bedroom with daybeds.

If you choose to work with headboards, you need to explore your personal style. Are you the type of person who likes to be surrounded by all of her favorite things? Do you want to have anything you desire within easy reach from the center of your bed? One way to accomplish this is with bookcase headboards. This design serves dual purposes. First, it organizes the space and makes it look clean and well cared for. However, it also makes your bed the lazy space you want it to be; you can easily stow all your books, magazines, and other items in the shelves and drawers, as well as set up any drinks or snacks you bring with you to the room.

If you prefer, though, you can keep a clean, straight line with minimalistic overtones as the theme to your bedroom with a contemporary headboard. This will give you a blank slate against which you can create any theme design throughout the rest of the bedroom. It also allows you to have a basic central point in the room around which you can change the design, providing a plain background against which the d?r can revolve and evolve.

If you choose to try something more unique, you can opt for a daybed in your space, taking the opportunity as a single woman to indulge in a very feminine design. With a wrought iron daybed, you can keep things rustic or classical with an intricate design and the opportunity to add ruffles and lace all over the room. The real joy of a daybed for your bed is that it doubles as a couch that can be perfect during the day when you want to sit up and do some work in a relaxed fashion, watch television, or read a book.

For some, the classic style is no the way to go. Instead, you may again (as mentioned above) be a fan of clean lines and sharp right angles. A contemporary daybed can give you this appearance and comfort level. This design can also be the basis for a Feng Shui design theme that brings out your inner peace and allows you to meditate in the personal space you have created for yourself. Whatever choices you make, every single woman should take advantage of the opportunity to build her own personal woman’s lounge in her bedroom before she has to learn to do the unspeakable and share the space, sparing the feelings of her mate!

Home Decorating – Asian-inspired Furniture

luxury bedroom furniture

If you’re looking for a sleek, exotic look perfectly suited for smaller apartments and living spaces, Oriental-styled furniture is a definite option to consider. Chinese and Japanese offerings have had a great influence on Western furniture and modern design. Bedroom furniture pieces such as the platform bed and futon, as well as stacked chests and trunks are examples of Asian-inspired furniture that is practical and compact, and at the same time stylish and sophisticated.

Lacquered surfaces are a key attribute of the Chinese furniture style, creating luxuriantly deep finishes that are paradoxically subtle and striking in their elegance. Comprised of ebony, teak and rosewood, Chinese furniture often bears an inlay of semi-precious materials like lapis lazuli, jade and mother-of-pearl. Symmetrical construction, miter joints and copper, brass or pewter brackets are often employed to create a clean profile that enhances a modern, cosmopolitan living space.

Space-saving savvy puts Japanese-inspired furniture high on the list of city dwellers and dorm room denizens alike. If you love your sleek, streamlined platform bed and couldn’t live without your stowaway futon, you owe your admiration to the ingenuity of a culture that traditionally shuns large, overwrought furniture. Other recognizable items that hail from Japan include the stacked Tansu chests and Nagamochi trunks. Like Chinese furnishings, furniture influenced by Japanese design is defined by its joinery, with master artisans taking years to learn the construction of these complex, durable joints. Great pride is taken in the general lack of nails or glue that holds the structure together, and in the joint’s shock absorbing properties.

Much contemporary furniture owes its inspiration to ancient Oriental designs. The beauty of a piece was found in its usefulness and construction. Simplicity of design was valued more than ostentatious and gaudy overindulgence. The same can be said for today’s modern furniture, especially bedroom furniture, where sleek and simple equals stylish and sophisticated.

Craze of Owning French Furniture

classic bedroom furniture

When it comes to the elegant things of life the French have no rivals. Whether we are talking about fashion, interior design or furniture style, they have that “je ne sais quoi” that makes everything they touch desirable and glamorous.

French fashion has always been elegant, forward thinking and lavish, just like French furniture. If women have always wanted to wear the most beautiful clothes from the best French designers, now there is a craze for furnishing our homes with glamorous French furniture. In a way it’s like extending the fashion trends into our homes. If you want to dress yourself with the most elegant ensemble, why not dress your bedroom accordingly?

A smart and eclectic mix of different French styles will turn your house into a stylish and comfortable home. Create the perfect reading corner with a gorgeous Louis XV armchair, or turn your bedroom into a boudoir with a delightful French Armoire and a Rococo style bed – there aren’t any rooms that won’t benefit from a little French styling.

But where does this craze come from? It all definitely started in Paris, in the 17th century under Louis XIV – “le Roi Soleil” – who ruled from 1643 to 1715, the longest reign of any European monarch. The reign of the French king Louis XIV commences what experts would call the start of ‘elegant’ furniture design in France. French furniture became refined in design, with a lot of emphasis on flowing, symmetrical design. Louis XIV saw the birth of Baroque style. The Versailles Palace was decorated in a strong, dramatic and exuberant style echoing the king’s strong leadership in a period of war and colonial empire building. The French classical Baroque style was grand and impressive, a symbol of the king’s power.

The French aristocracy became obsessed with interior design, beauty, decadent living, and French furniture became desirable, and crazed for ever since.

When Louis XIV died in 1715, his five-year-old great-grandson became Louis XV. As he was too young to take the throne, his uncle Philippe, the Duke of Orleans, was appointed Regent until the king attained legal majority in 1723. The transitional period between the opulent baroque period and the less formal rococo era of Louis XV became known as French Regence.

Furniture Design With Feng Shui And Other Asian Themes

european bedroom furniture

For many years now, Asia has been the leading designer in many applications. In the past, they have had superior technology and design for electronics, and they have produced many of the best selling, most reliable cars on the road. With such innovative minds and high work ethics, Japan and China have led the way in many fields, so it should come as no surprise that the latest area in which their traditions have become prevalent is home design.

Two very distinct decorating styles have come from Japan in recent years, with hints here and there from China and other Asian cultures also infringing on the styles popular in American society. You can trace back the fascination to the art of the dragon, the artistic language (all written in symbols rather than characters as with many languages), and other such influences. It began with the fringe of American society, with youths getting tattoos and body art in Asian styles, and now it has progressed into a way of life and overall home design.

Minimalism has long been a theme of Japanese and other Asian design. In fact, many traditional Asian homes do not have furniture as American and European homes do. Instead, mattresses lay on the floor, and seating at mealtime is pillows around a table no higher than an American coffee table. Homes are small, and one room may be used for several functions, much like an efficiency apartment in the United States. While still artistic, the beauty in the few furnishings kept is their sharp angles, basic colors, and pure functionality. American design has begun to copy this trend, reverting to minimalist furniture design, without the large cushions, ornate decoration, and imposing size. In some homes, less furniture is used altogether to mimic the Asian cultures.

One specific design theme that has become quite prevalent in American society is Feng Shui. There is more to this than just a home décor style – Feng Shui is a way of life. It is about enlightenment and the ability to find inner peace. Feng Shui is using design as a way to strengthen, enlighten and protect an environment.

Interestingly enough, the colors most often associated with Feng Shui are black and red, with some burnt orange or yellow and deep brown mixed in. These colors have long been shunned in American design because black is thought to be a depressing color. While red has been thought to incite anger, many Feng Shui consultants recommend red to produce a protective and inspiring environment. It is believed that minimalist design used in combination with appropriate colors and the addition of the correct décor can produce a sense of peace and enlightenment.

A brief study of Asian cultures can assist in building an idea of where the future of design is headed. For many years companies such as Sony and Toyota were trend setters for the Western Industrial World. Design is one more aspect in which you can expect to see the West following the lead of Eastern examples for a long time to come.

How to Put Sex Appeal Into your Bedroom Furniture Style

Bedroom Furniture

You don’t have to be intimidated when you decide to decorate your bedroom in a style that is appealing and sexy for you and any guests you have. Your bedroom should reflect your inner feelings and become a den and sanctuary for you that can make you feel sexy and sassy. This kind of design doesn’t require a huge amount of effort and can be accomplished with a few pieces of furniture, starting with headboards and a new bed style. Once you have modern bedroom furniture, you’ll be able to start with a clean palette you can dress up with sex appeal.

Choosing from among stylish headboards will help you begin with a design that shows your personal taste in terms of color and theme, as well as a shape from which you can build around. Simply exchanging your current style for an iron or metal bed, a simple and sleek design ready to be accented with plush pillows and thick comforters in lush, brilliant colors that make you feel sexy. These beds serve as a simple baseline for an entire theme, and one of the best ways to work around them because of their clean lines and modern look is to make it the centerpiece and draw your additional clean, straight lines and angles directly from its dimensions.

Wrought iron headboards make a great accent for these beds, adding a focal point at the top of your new bed frame to draw the room together and bring their attention to how your personality comes through in the theme. These headboards can be quite intricate in the metal working, or they can be simple with the clean lines you are using elsewhere in the room.

If you want to choose something a bit more intriguing while still keeping it simple, a king loft bed can be really sexy in a contemporary fashion bed. You can top this bed with one of a million headboards that will instantly blend into whatever design elements you prefer for your sexy lair. Because they are similar to platform beds in that they are so simple and sleek, you can again work around them and incorporate them into any sexy design that brings out who you are.

The most important thing about adding sex appeal to your bedroom is to make sure your choices for pieces to use make you feel sexy as well as comfortable. It is your lair, and any headboards, beds, and accessories you install should appeal to you and your sense of style and level of comfort while still adding that little bit of intrigue.

Creating the Perfect Modern Master Bedroom

classic bedroom furniture

Even in today’s challenging economy, there are still homes to be decorated. Whether you’re moving into a new home, an apartment, a condo or townhouse, there is some decorating to do.

Thankfully, modern bedroom furniture is very portable. It has a chameleon-like ability to change environments with aplomb, whether you’re moving into a new home, a loft apartment that just hit the half-century mark or a charming Victorian in an established neighborhood.

The clean lines, deceptively effortless design, and superior construction lend themselves well to any location. Modern bedroom furniture is a true American classic, one that easily transcends time and the endless fads of fashion. Unlike some design directions (remember the 70s colors of burnt orange, avocado and harvest gold?), modern bedroom furniture will still be fashionable decades from now.

Bedroom furniture says a lot about a person. It says you know the lay of the land and that a sense of style doesn’t mean that you chase the latest fad, fashion or trend. Instead, you know who you are and that your choices in life, whether it’s a purse, a little black dress or a superbly crafted bedroom furniture set, says something about you.

Sure, few people may be allowed to visit you inner sanctum. But when they do, you want them to know that you give as much thought to the place you sleep as the places you frequent, the people you associate with and the things you acquire and cherish in life.

Modern bedroom furniture says you appreciate the beauty of the smallest things in life. The clean lines. The simplicity of design. The commitment to function, then form. It says you understand what bedroom furniture is all about. Not the over-the-top ornamentation of overly wrought woods, but the simplicity of modern bedroom furniture. The knowledge that fashion is always fleeting, but classic design achieves immortality.

As you well know, the relationship bedroom furniture has with the space it occupies is synergistic. They have to be in harmony with one another. Thankfully, modern bedroom furniture can transform itself with something as simple as the bedding that adorns it.

An overstuffed comforter adds softness to the bedroom furniture. A more linear bedding adds structure and order to the room. A solitary crisp, white sheet exudes minimalism. The bed itself doesn’t distract from the intent of the owner. Rather, it is there to create harmony – a bridge between old and new – what is known and what isn’t yet known.

And therein lies the true beauty of modern bedroom furniture. It is a visual bridge to the simplicity we adore, the craftsmanship we admire and the inner sanctum of serenity we crave.

History in the Making – the First Metal Bed

metal bedroom furniture

It seems that metal beds are everywhere these days, some of the most affordable choices for bedding in the market. However, these were not always available, with ancient beds constructed from less sophisticated materials. In fact, the first documented of such materials being used for beds doesn’t appear until the Egyptian Empire. Of course, these weren’t created from the same materials from which affordable beds are today.

While commoners still slept on primitive beds of leaves and similar items, the Pharaohs of Egypt discovered advantages to sleeping on raised platforms, with parts constructed from precious metals. Tutankahmen, for example, slept on a bed constructed from ebony and gold. Aside from being the first metal beds, these were also probably the first platform beds.

While this same construction with gold, silver, and bronze was used for high-end beds during the Roman Empire in conjunction with feather or reed stuffed mattresses, design left metal behind in bed construction after this time until the late 18th century, at which time cast iron beds were combined with cotton mattresses to do away with the infestation of insects in the bedroom. From that time forward, metal bedroom sets became more popular among consumers, eventually becoming the less expensive option compared to other materials such as wood.

Children bunk beds are often some of the most commonly found bedroom furniture in metal today, since it needs to be replaced more often and parents don’t want to spend more than necessary on the furniture in these area. However, there are many other uses today for metal in the bedroom.

For example, you can find a variety of stylish metal headboards online which can be elegant or simple (or both), depending on your taste. These headboards can add quite a bit of personality and beauty to your bedroom design without emptying your wallet or bank account.

In design today, wrought iron beds have also become wildly popular, being both affordable and stylish, with contemporary straight lines and sharp angles. Of course, for those who enjoy a more traditional look, wrought iron can also be wielded into a less severe design into a more intricate, delicate look. Still, this metal is the current favorite for all sorts of items, from headboards to daybed designs. In fact, trundles are often constructed from this material as well. As you can see, metal in the bedroom has evolved severely from its original use but is still highly desired in today’s designs.

LCD Lift Furniture

luxury bedroom furniture

A television lift cabinet is a Designer’s dream! It allows him/her to take a room to the next level of design and let me tell you why. If purchased from a quality company, LCD lift furniture with its sleek design and luxurious finish can become a focal point for the room or it can quietly blend in with your motif, but still lend visual distinction with its superb craftsmanship and simple stylish lines.

A motorized TV lift allows the designer versatility in creating every room’s decor.

When plasma lifts were first introduced it was only for the very wealthy. Designers used this furniture in million dollar homes and only the very exclusive hotels could afford them. Trace McCullough, a true visionary, realized that pop up furniture would be the wave of the future for upper middle class America and created a company to design, produce and manufacture this product in a more cost effective manner while maintaining the standards of Old World Craftsmanship and design.

Today there is a lift plasma available for any room you would like to have a TV. The bedroom at the foot of the bed, the living room, even the dining room-your TV hidden inside an exquisitely crafted dining buffet, a hand-crafted masterpiece that will marvel the senses of even the most hard to please decorator and/or client.

Everyone enjoys the use of a TV and the decorator is left with the dilemma of what to do with it in his design. Putting it on the wall is really not an option in a high-end design. Walls are for your exclusive paintings that bring your room together. Even the most elegant plasma TV will not hold its own next to a Rembrandt! The TV needs to have a place where it can be stored and protected until you are ready to watch it. Why not turn your storage unit into furniture possessing individuality and unsurpassed beauty for your elegant entertainment design with a motorized TV lift. Why have a cumbersome entertainment center that takes up an entire wall that you can’t move an inch if you need to get behind it. Why not have something small and sleek while functional, hiding all of your components. Have you ever tried to add a Monet above or around your huge entertainment center or on an adjacent wall next to your TV and have it look appropriate?

These are the problems a decorator and homeowner have to deal with and now these problems are easily solved with a television lift cabinet. Designers for exclusive hotels have been taking advantage of this for some time now. They saw how magnificent a room would look with a piece made of the finest materials at the foot of the bed, yet functional at the end of the day when their guest was tucked in bed and with a push of a button could raise the TV for viewing before going to sleep.

Designers also see a motorized TV lift as cost effective as you can swivel your TV 360 degrees for viewing from all angles. This allows you to have one TV serving several areas.

Choosing Themes For Kids Bedroom Design

girl bedroom furniture

Designing a kids bedroom can be an ultimately fun and enjoyable process. The hardest part of the decision making is to choose what type of theme to opt for, with choices such as boating, castles, football, fairytale and history the choices are literally endless. Naturally any theme will mean matching furniture such as the bed, wardrobe and cupboards, creating a space that will be enjoyable and relaxing for kids.

Of vital importance is to include kids in the decision making process. As a parent it is important to find out whether there is a particular colour they like or a certain thing they are into. Remember that kids are often susceptible to fads and hence kitting out the room in their favourite thing may be inadvisable, in a month or so they may not like Postman Pat or Thomas the Tank Engine. Fundamentally it is advisable to keep the theme flexible, choosing a bed, and other furniture should reflect this flexibility at all times.

Additionally the theme will most likely have to reflect gender roles. For instance a girl will be more attracted to a fairy or princess bed and a boy will be more inclined to choose a bed and design that reflect a boat or racing car. It is possible to adapt a theme however for both genders, for instance a medieval theme can support both boys and girls, while the boys can have knights on the walls, girls will like princesses and flowing fabrics. Once again including kids in this process is the most advisable course of action when attempting to find a suitable design solution.

If you are stuck for ideas on what type of themes to go for here are a few pointers that will help you in finding the perfect bedroom design:

Nature is always popular with young kids, this could be adapted to be a jungle or the desert, an enchanted wood or even an under the sea theme.

Space is predominately popular with boys although there are some budding young female astronomers out there. Decorating the walls and bed with pictures of the sun, moon and stars can be good, as can planets hanging from the ceiling.

Animals are always a good option; adorning shelves with plenty of cuddly toys can make a room look like a zoo.

For a more simplistic theme utilise colours or even the entire spectrum. This type of design is excellent as it can be easily adapted as the child grows and tastes change.

A movie or TV show theme is a good idea although care should be taken as tastes with this sort of thing change rapidly. As previously stated forking out for a bedroom adorned with the latest TV show can be expensive and soon disliked.

Sports are always popular amongst youngsters. Naturally football or a favourite team can make a decent theme for a bedroom. There is even the opportunity to include pictures of the child’s favourite player.

Fantasy themes can include pirate ship bed design or a farmyard and even a fairytale wood or castle; even a boat bed for those who may want to be naval adventurers in future years. Ultimately the choice should be left to the kids.

These themes are just an idea of what is possible. Through deliberation with the child creating a space that is liked by both parent and kids is a very real and attainable possibility. It does not have to stop there however, including children in the decorating process will add to their love of a room and help in making a space that is loved by all.
